MAEA stands for Mason Arsenault, EA — an Enrolled Agent licensed by the U.S. Department of the Treasury. When you hire MAEA Tax, you get Mason: the person who prepares your return is the person who plans your strategy and the person who answers your email or picks up the phone. No hand-offs. No call centers. No surprises in April.
Mason Arsenault · Enrolled Agent
Founder, MAEA Tax Services Inc
Most firms name themselves after a town or a founder's ego. This one is named after a guarantee: the person on the sign is the person on your return.
The person you work with — from the first email to the filed return and the plan for next year.
Twelve-plus years in tax and accounting — from bookkeeper to senior tax accountant, plus seasons as an IRS VITA volunteer.
Licensed by the U.S. Department of the Treasury after passing a three-part IRS examination covering every corner of tax law.
Unlimited rights to represent you before the IRS — audits, appeals, collections, and notices. The highest representation status the IRS grants.
Standard personal and business income tax services — done to a standard most people have never experienced. And when your situation reaches past a return, so does the help.
Preparation and filing for individuals and families — plus the planning that makes next year better than this one.
Sole proprietors, LLCs, partnerships, and S-corporations. Your business return gets the same attention as your strategy.
Where your portfolio and your tax return meet. I don't manage your money — I make sure your investment decisions and your taxes agree with each other.
A letter from the IRS is not a fire drill when your representative is federally licensed to stand in front of the IRS for you.
Plenty of people can enter your numbers into software. I bring over a decade of investment and tax strategy experience to the conversation — so the decisions you make during the year are the ones that save you money at the end of it.
When a situation crosses from tax preparation into legal territory, you won't be left hunting for a lawyer alone. I work with a tax law attorney on call — one conversation, one plan, no getting bounced between professionals.
I've spent my whole career in tax and accounting — twelve years and counting, starting as a bookkeeper and an IRS VITA volunteer preparing free returns for people who needed help, and most recently as a Senior Tax Accountant at Arcadia Financial. In between: public accounting firms, a management company, and a lot of returns.
I became an Enrolled Agent in 2019 — a credential issued by the U.S. Department of the Treasury after passing the IRS's three-part Special Enrollment Examination. It's the highest credential the IRS itself recognizes for tax representation, and it means I can stand before the IRS on your behalf for audits, appeals, and collections anywhere in the country.
I started MAEA Tax because I believe tax work is personal. Your return tells the story of your year — your business, your investments, your family's decisions — and it deserves someone who reads the whole story, not just the numbers. I'm based in Methuen, Massachusetts, right on the New Hampshire line, and I serve clients in both states.
I graduated magna cum laude from Salem State University with a B.B.A. in Accounting. I've been a Toastmasters member since 2016, because explaining tax clearly is a skill you practice. And I speak limited Spanish — se habla algo de español.
Email me at Mason@maeatax.com or call (978) 810-1230 and tell me what's going on — a few sentences is plenty.
I'll tell you what I can do, what it will cost, and what I need from you. No jargon, no pressure.
You send documents, I prepare, and we talk it through before anything is filed. You'll never sign something you don't understand.
Filed and confirmed — with a plan in hand so next year is easier than this one.
An Enrolled Agent (EA) is a tax practitioner licensed by the U.S. Department of the Treasury after passing a comprehensive three-part IRS exam covering individuals, businesses, and representation. EAs have unlimited rights to represent taxpayers before the IRS — the same standing as a CPA or tax attorney when it comes to IRS matters. Unlike a CPA, whose license is state-issued and covers accounting broadly, the EA credential is federal and focused entirely on tax.
Both. Personal income tax and business income tax are the core of the practice — W-2 earners with investments, sole proprietors, LLCs, partnerships, and S-corporations. Many clients are both at once, which is exactly when having one person handle both returns pays off.
Don't ignore it, and don't panic — most IRS notices resolve without drama if they're handled promptly and correctly. Email me the letter and I'll tell you what it actually means. As an Enrolled Agent I can deal with the IRS directly on your behalf, so you never have to make that call yourself.
Both. I'm based in Methuen, right on the state line, and I've spent my career working with clients on both sides of the border — including the cross-border situations that trip up preparers who only know one state's rules.
It depends on the complexity of your return or situation, and you'll know the number before any work begins. I quote up front — no hourly meter running, no surprise bill in March.
I don't sell or manage investments — that's your financial advisor's job. My job is making sure your investment strategy and your tax strategy agree with each other: which accounts to draw from, when to realize gains, what a rebalance will cost you in tax, and how stock options or RSUs fit into your year. If a question crosses into legal territory, I have a tax law attorney on call.
Email or call — either way you get me directly, usually within one business day.

1. What's going on — a few sentences about your situation.
2. What you're hoping for — a filed return, a plan, or just an answer to a question.
That's it. I'll take it from there.
Serving individuals and small businesses across Massachusetts and New Hampshire.
